The standard choice
A monofocal lens gives excellent vision at one distance, usually far. You wear readers for close work. It is included in the standard price and it is what most people have.
When an upgrade earns its cost
A toric lens corrects astigmatism and is genuinely worth it above about 1.5 dioptres. A multifocal reduces dependence on glasses but splits light between distances, which some people perceive as haloes at night.
If you drive at night for a living, we will usually steer you away from multifocal.
